Want to build a real career online from Tunisia? The six skills businesses pay for in e-commerce and digital marketing, and how to start learning them.

More and more young Tunisians are asking the same question: is it possible to build a real career online, from Tunisia, without waiting for the perfect job offer? My answer is yes. E-commerce and digital marketing are among the few fields where your results matter more than your diploma, and where you can start with a laptop and a phone.

But a career is not built on motivation alone. It is built on skills that businesses are willing to pay for. After helping more than 30 people go from zero to a successful online business, and working with over 50 brands through my agency Adness, these are the six skills I see making the biggest difference.

1. Paid advertising

Almost every online business in Tunisia depends on Facebook and Instagram ads to sell. People who can run campaigns profitably are always in demand, whether as employees, freelancers or store owners. The key is not knowing every button in Ads Manager. It is understanding creatives, testing with discipline and judging results on real profit. I shared the main lessons in Facebook ads for e-commerce: 9 lessons from 50+ brands.

2. Content and creative production

Ads are only as good as the content inside them. Being able to shoot a clear product video on a phone, write a hook that stops the scroll and edit a short clip quickly is a skill brands pay for every week. You do not need expensive equipment to start. You need practice and an eye for what makes people stop and watch.

3. E-commerce operations

Behind every store that grows, there is someone who makes operations work: confirming orders, managing couriers, following up on parcels and keeping stock under control. In a cash-on-delivery market like Tunisia, this skill directly protects profit. If you understand how to reduce COD returns, you are already more valuable than most applicants.

4. Understanding numbers

The people who grow fastest are the ones who understand the numbers behind a business: cost per delivered order, delivery rate, margin and net profit. You do not need to be an accountant. You need to know which numbers tell you if a business is healthy, and to check them every week.

5. Selling and communication

Whether you confirm orders by phone, talk to clients as a freelancer or pitch your own services, communication is a skill that multiplies all the others. Being clear, reliable and confident with people is often what turns a good marketer into someone clients keep for years.

6. Consistency

This one is not technical, but it is the skill that decides everything. Most people who start online give up after a few weeks without results. The ones who succeed keep learning, keep testing and keep showing up, especially when progress is slow. Consistency is what turns small skills into a career.

How to start

Pick one skill from this list and go deep on it for the next three months. Practice on a real project, even a small one: your own store, a friend's business or a local brand. Results, even modest ones, are worth more than any certificate. If you want to start your own store, my step-by-step guide to starting an e-commerce business in Tunisia is a good first read.

My mission today is simple: to help ambitious people build their careers online, through consulting, coaching and Ecomgrowth Academy. If you are serious about it, you are exactly the kind of person I want to work with.
